2/15/2010 Machu Picchu inaccessible by train from Cuzco for the next two months. The Inca Trail will reopen to hikers as the weather improves. Local tour operators reported that beginning Thursday, others should be able to travel to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of the peak, by road to Santa Teresa and Hidroelectrico and then by rail from Hidroelectrico. That journey will run about six hours, twice the amount of time the usual tourist train takes.

1/21/10 Peru transportation strike is now considered indefinite. 1,500 tourists from Argentina, Brazil and Chile planning to visit Colca Valley, Cusco and Arequipa beaches are stranded if they can't afford air fare. Government arranging the use of civil flights with aircraft of the armed forces to get the frail and "emergency only" travelers to their destination. June, 2009 PeruRail thinking about offering services for tourists in Lake Titicaca in 2010. This will include a luxury tourist service aboard an 89 year old English ship "Ollanta".  Will require an investment of 6-8 million dollars on restoration. Tourists will not stay overnight on the boat!

14 April, 2009 Peru: Train service in Cusco is normal again. PeruRail train services to and from Cusco has been resumed, after one day of suspension. Vistadome and Backpacker, Hiram Bingham was scheduled to depart soon.The trains to and from Puno are also operating normally now.

Oct. 30 Public transportation, (ANDINA).- Peruvian train company PeruRail, which operates Cusco-Machu Picchu and Cusco-Puno routes, announced Thursday the suspension of its services due to a farmers' strike called for November 4, 2008.

A PeruRail press release explained that this decision was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and workers.

PeruRail, public transportation, also announced it will completely suspend its rail service until this indefinite strike ends and safety conditions improve.

Public transportation, PeruRail, which provides tourists transportation to the town of Machu Picchu, noted that trips will be rescheduled or refunds will be made at the request of tourists.
